Hiring someone who had experienced the same as the character is perfect. It will bring out raw and real emotions. And that will do the same to the audience as well.

Re: Let Them Chirp Awhile

hey...i think Nick is right about that, and in response to MBC - dude - most indie movies are marketed with trailers that do not reflect the actual content in an effort to bring in a broad audience. i havent seen let them chirp a while yet, but if what nick is saying is right, then, the producers of let them chirp a while are just trying to make the film seem more mainstream.

take for example that film ELEGY which was marketed as a comedy. it's actually a really dark film, and i saw it with a friend. the trailer made it look like a movie for baby-boomers, but it's really all about death and sex. anyway, rarely are trailers good representations of films if the films are by a) unknown filmmakers b) first-time filmmakers or c) if the films are about something that is sort of out of the ordinary...

Re: City Of Ember

um.....

Re: The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

So do I. It's going to be down! I'll be really dissapointed if it's not good. Anyway I'm stoked and I wish it good luck ;)

Re: Let Them Chirp Awhile

Hey Nick, thanks for reading my blog, and thanks even more for commenting.

It's true that I haven't seen the movie... the basic model of the blog is that I go ahead and review films before actually seeing them. Although I'm surely often wrong, I do feel that I'm accurately representing the text of the trailer as I perceive it. If the movie itself turns out to be a lot different than my interpretation, then perhaps that trailer wasn't the best possible representation of that particular film.

What do you think?

Re: Let Them Chirp Awhile

You're all mixed up about this movie. I saw it at Santa Fe Film Festival last year. In the first 5 minutes it actually openly rips on Garden State which is really hilarious. And the title comes from some Emerson Essay called "Self Reliance". it's on the official website here :

www.letthemchirpawhile.com

the movie is building on stuff from woody allen and the classic italian filmmakers (fellini, de sica) but it's pretty original actually in a lot of ways. don't write it off based on the trailer. it's actually a fun film

Nick S. This movie is kind of like Bush telling people to fix the economy by shopping more.

Re: Yes Man

As a book reviewer I find myself saying No quite a bit, and I'm not ashamed of that. The idea that we close ourselves off by saying No is a little offensive.

That and this seems to be a reworking of Liar Liar, just with No for Yes instead of Truth vs. Lies. Sad, sad Hollywood.

Re: The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

Having watched more recent trailers for Benjamin Button, it's now apparent that my reference to "The Mental Traveller" above was even more apropos than I thought. The hero grows young as the love interest grows old...

Re: Tropic Thunder/Rain Of Madness

Of course he is in blackface. The form has been on the rise for years now - ever since Spike Lee let the cat out of the bag with his film Bamboozled. Since that time several stars have worn blackface on Comedy Central: David Spade, Greg Giraldo, Dave Chappelle, Sarah Silverman, Carlos Mencia, and others.

Blackface rules! So, of course, it is making a massive come back - though it never entirely went away.

Look at this for example:

http://www.myspace.com/fiddygt

Totally blackface - and totally awesome!

Love,
50GT

Re: My Best Friend’s Girl

Dane Cook started off as a stand up comedian; now he's starring in movies with Jessica Simpson, Jessica Alba and Kate Hudsen... pretty impressive.

Re: Indy 4

You'll be pleased to know that the movie is just as retarded as the trailer. The number of times people in the (packed house) audience said, in unison, "What?!?" made for kind of a bonding experience, but the kind I coulda done without.

Re: I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With

Hell no, man. I just watch the trailers in Quicktime because I have a mac. For me to watch trailers posted on windows-centric sites is a pain, so this is what you get.

Also, I'm sure that updated flash support on the iPhone will come. :)

Re: I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With

ha, i thought you made up that title.

that said, the guy's great on cye, so who knows?

(i couldn't watch the trailer because it requires me to install support for apple's retarded little quicktime child, which i ain't going to. FLASH, apple, FLASH. everyone else is fucking doing it. I know you want to pretend that quicktime can become the standard, what with not having flash support on the iphone, but it's too fucking late, guy).

Re: Spider-Man 3

i want to watch spiderman 3 in my pc now. tq so much

Re: Spider-Man 3

i want to watch spiderman 3 in my pc now. tq
